A Master’s Thesis in the College of Medicine on the Level of Interleukin VI with Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in its Genetic Promoter in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis in the City of Mosul
A master’s thesis for the Department of Microbiology was discussed in the College of Medicine entitled “Interleukin-6 serum level with -174 G/C SNPs in its gene promoter in patients with rheumatoid arthritis / Iraq”, which was presented by the student Ruba A. Ibrahim on Wednesday 29th December 2021.
The study aimed to evaluate the levels of interleukin VI in the sera of patients with rheumatoid arthritis with the study of single nucleotide polymorphisms -174 G/C in its gene promoter as a possible risk factor for the disease in addition to studying any association between interleukin VI ٛ with other criteria such as sex, age and clinical severity of the disease.
The study concluded that the level of interleukin VI in the sera of patients with rheumatoid arthritis is much higher than its levels among normal people. Meanwhile, the study did not support the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms -174 G/C in the genetic promoter as a possible risk factor for disease development.
The discussion committee consisted of Assistant Prof Dr Hiyam A. Al-Taee (chairman), Assistant Prof Dr Ahmed M. Hussein (member), Lecturer Dr Asma’ Z. Sheetawi (member), and Lecturer Dr Firas M. Daoud (member and supervisor).
Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed. It was also attended by some heads, rapporteurs and teach staff of various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.
After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis doing with the necessary amendments to it, and awarding the student a master’s degree.
