A Symposium of the Department of Family and Community Medicine Deals with the Most Important Challenges Faced by Society and Medical Community during Corona Pandemic

The symposium of the Department of Family and Community Medicine discussed the most important challenges faced by the community in general and the medical community in particular during corona pandemic in the primary health care provided by health centres such as vaccines and treatments on Monday, 12th July 2021.

The symposium aimed to educate the community about the dangers facing primary health care such as lack of vaccination and fear of it, black fungus syndrome, and treatment of simple and medium cases of corona disease. In addition to discuss the most important factors that lead to the reluctance of society from vaccination.

The symposium concluded to the need to spread health awareness among members of society to stay away from malicious rumours and to rely on reliable scientific sources regarding the vaccine and treatment of the disease (corona).

The symposium was held under the slogan “for a Healthy Society and Better Health” under the auspices of the

President of University, Prof Dr Qusay K. Al-Ahmadi, and in the presence of the Scientific Vice-President, Prof Dr Munir S. Taha, and under the supervision and presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed.

The symposium consisted of an opening lecture by the Head of the Department, Assistant Prof Dr Walid Gh. Al-Taee, entitled “The Epidemiological Situation in Iraq”. Then, the first scientific session was begun under the chairmanship of the Scientific Vice-Dean, Assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Ibrahim, and with the rapporteur, the Assistant Prof Dr Bassam A. Al-Nia’ma, and it included two lectures. The first for the Assistant Prof Dr Omaima A. Ibrahim, entitled “Introduction to Covid-19 Vaccines” and the second for the Lecturer Dr Nagla’ I. Al-Sammak, entitled “The Relation between COVID – 19 and Mucor Mycosis.” While the second scientific session was chaired by the Assistant Prof Dr Zaid M. Shindala, and by Assistant Prof Dr Anmar B. Al-Diwachi, which consisted of two lectures as well. The first was by the Assistant Prof Ruqaiya Adnan, entitled “Management of Patient with COVID 19 in Primary Health Care Setting” followed by the lecture delivered by the Lecturer Dr Nadia H. Saeed entitled “Social Stigma Associated with COVID 19.”

After the end of each session, there was an opportunity for questions, discussions and interpositions by the audience. The representative of Minarini Pharmaceutical Company (the supporting body) also gave a lecture on the related topic.

The symposium was attended by some members of the College of Medicine Council of Mosul University, tens of teaching staff from Mosul and Nineveh Universities, and specialist doctors from the Nineveh Health Directorate.
