A medical scientific symposium was held on how to deal with serious complications following bacterial infections, on Tuesday, 2nd February 2021. A number of specialists in paediatrics, paediatric surgery and general surgery from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Mosul and the Nineveh Health Department attended. The symposium discussed two important topics: blood infections in premature infants and children (under 3 years old), focusing on the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of these cases as well as how to reduce these infections and ways to prevent them. Two lectures were given alternatively by instructors from the Department of Surgery. The first by the Lecturer Dr Muddathir A. Muhammad about occult blood poisoning entitled “Occult Bacteremia” And the second by the Lecturer Dr Bassam Kh. Al-Hajjar, on necrotizing enterocolitis “Necrotising enterocolitis” The scientific session of the paediatric department was headed by Assistant Prof Dr Mazin M. Al-Sarraf. After the two lectures, there was a room for questions, discussions and interpositions by the attendees. An introductory lecture was presented by the representative of the Acino Pharmaceutical Company (the symposium sponsor).
