A master’s thesis presented by the student Lara Kifah Nuri was discussed in the Faculty of Nursing entitled “The burdens and coping strategies of family members who provide for schizophrenia in the city of Mosul” on Wednesday 9th December 2020. The thesis was supervised by the lecturer Dr Safyia A. Chalabi from the Department of Medicine. The study summarized the important role of the family in the care of schizophrenic patients. She also discussed the burdens the family faced as well as the coping strategies. The study recommended that the psychological nursing intervention should focus on the need of the caregiver with a focus on community-based care for mental patients as well as the family intervention. Mental health professionals should also pay more attention to the caregiver as well as patients, and develop more programs to support the family.
