Discussion of a Doctoral Thesis in the College of Medicine on the Results of Adding Bee Propolis to the Protocol Containing the Drug Cisplatin

The College of Medicine, University of Mosul, discussed the doctoral thesis of the Department of Pharmacology entitled “ Propolis Effect in the reflection on Cisplatin: Induced Toxcicity on some Liver and Renal Function Tests and Histopathology of Liver and Kidneys in Male Albino Rats” presented by the student Maher I. Al-Omar on Monday, 27th September 2021.

The study aimed to prove the benefits of bee propolis in mitigating the toxic effects of cisplatin through some biochemical tests, liver and kidney functions and histological images in male rats.

It was concluded that the use of bee propolis in a high dose reduces the toxic effects of cisplatin with the possibility of adding bee propolis as a dietary supplement to patients for whom this drug is prescribed.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Kawa F. Deza Yi (chairman), Prof Dr Hussam El-Din Al-Najjar (member), Assistant Prof Dr Nadwa S. El-Ezzo (member), Assistant Prof Dr Ammar Al-Hayek (member), and Assistant Prof Dr Musa’b M. Khalaf (Member). ), Prof Dr Imad A. Thanoun and Prof Dr Muhammad Kh. Taha (members and supervisors).

Part of the discussion was attended by the Scientific Vice- Dean, Assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Ibrahim. It was also attended by some former and current heads and teaching staff of various scientific departments, and a number of postgraduate students.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read including accepting the thesis with doing the necessary amendments and awarding the student the doctorate degree.
