A master’s thesis of the student Saad A. Yahya Al-Sakka was discussed in the Department of Medical Physiology on Monday, 25th April 2022 entitled “multiple peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients by means of a study of nerve conduction and somatosensory stimulus”The discussion committee consisted of:Prof Dr Jawad Ali Saleh (Chairman)Assistant Prof Dr. Afra’ Muhammad Al-Amin (Member)Lecturer Dr Jinan A. Younis (Member and supervisor)The study aimed to determine the extent to which peripheral nerves (sensory and motor) are affected by diabetes and its relationship to maintaining the normal blood sugar level, and whether the duration of diabetes affects the state of peripheral nerves.The thesis concluded that peripheral neuritis due to diabetes can affect both the sensory and motor nerves in the upper and lower extremities and affects the lower extremities more than the upper ones. In severe peripheral neuritis, the increase in blood sugar level and the prolonged duration of diabetes mellitus lead to an increase in the severity of peripheral neuritis and a worsening of the patient’s condition.Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed, and the Scientific and Administrative Vice-Dean.
