“Early Detection of Breast Cancer, Hope and Life”

An Informative Seminar Sponsored by the President of Mosul University…*

An informative seminar was held under the auspices of the President of Mosul University, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Humam Ghanim Ibraahim. The seminar was organized in implementation of the third National Plan for Women, Security, and Peace/Pillar of Protection and Prevention, and coinciding with the arrival of October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month).

The Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Medicine/Mosul University, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency, held the seminar entitled: “Early Detection of Breast Cancer, Hope and Life” on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Hall of Graduate Studies.

The seminar lectures were delivered by:

– Assistant Professor Dr. Banan Burhan Mohammad, Specialist in Pathological Histology.
– Assistant Professor Dr. Hadeel Mohammad Farouk, Specialist in Radiology and Ultrasound.
– Assistant Professor Dr. Zahraa Marwan Shaban, Specialist in Medical Genetics.

The seminar came out with several important recommendations, including:

– The necessity of starting regular screening for women from the age of 40, or at a younger age if there is a family history, and conducting a self-examination of the breast once a month.
– Seeing a doctor immediately upon noticing any change in the shape or texture of the breast.
– Following a healthy lifestyle (balanced diet, exercise, ideal weight) reduces the risk of infection, and reducing stress and psychological pressures improves the body’s immunity and resistance to diseases.
– Abstaining from smoking and alcohol is one of the most important preventive measures.
– Spreading awareness among family and friends, as awareness and knowledge can save lives.
