Surgery Department Symposium at the College of Medicine
Under the auspices of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision and presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Humam Ghanim Ibraahim, and attended by Professor Dr. Muzahim Al-Khayat, Chairman of the Parliamentary Education Committee, and Assistant Professor Dr. Basil Khalaf, President of the University Academics Syndicate – Nineveh Branch, the Surgery Department at the College of Medicine held its annual symposium on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

The symposium aimed to highlight the status of surgery as a science based on solid and precise foundations, and at the same time as an art that requires creativity and skill, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals in promoting good health, fair and inclusive education, and building effective partnerships. The symposium featured scientific lectures and practical presentations on the latest surgical techniques and development methods in medical practice, with the participation of a group of specialized professors and postgraduate students.

Recommendations of the Symposium:
1. Adopt evidence-based strategies to determine the optimal timing for surgical interventions.
2. Enhance early diagnosis capabilities and treat septic shock using the latest protocols.
3. Develop integrated programs for intensive care for surgical patients with hypertension.
4. Establish a national database to document and share rare cases in pediatric surgery.
5. Introduce the latest obesity surgery techniques into our clinical practices with the development of special training programs.
6. Enhance the integration between radiological diagnosis and surgical planning by adopting modern techniques.
7. Enhance surgeons’ skills through continuous training to face challenges in primary rhinoplasty.
8. Enhance safety and quality in healthcare by adopting safe and effective surgical practices.
9. Encourage scientific research and development in the field of surgery.
10. Enhance continuing medical education by sending faculty members to attend specialized courses and symposia.

These recommendations represent a roadmap for developing surgical practice in our city, keeping pace with the latest global developments and solidifying the integration between medical education, scientific research, and advanced healthcare.
