The Department of Surgery Holds a Virtual Medical Symposium on the Basic Principles of Oxygen Therapy

Under the patronage and presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof Basil M. Nathir Saeed, and the presence of the Scientific Vice-Dean, assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Ibrahim, and in cooperation with the student organization TNLMS, the Department of Surgery held the Virtual Medical Seminar (Webinar) entitled “Basic Principles of Oxygen Therapy and Non-Invasive Ventilation Principles Oxygen Therapy And Non-Invasive Ventilation” on Friday, October 2nd 2020. The seminar, moderated by the head of the department, Prof Dr Samir I. Al-Saffar, consisted of three lectures, the first by the lecturer Dr Muddathir A. Muhammad entitled “Oxygen … Is It a Drug?”The second by the lecturer Dr Muhannad A. Bakr entitled “Modules of Oxygen Therapy” Then the symposium was concluded with the third lecture by the lecturer Dr Dina A. Al-Qazzaz entitled “Non-Invasive Ventilation.” After that, it was allowed for discussion, questions and interventions by the attendees. Dozens of professors, academics, doctors and specialists from different universities and health departments as well as some students of the medical group for undergraduate and postgraduate studies attended the symposium….

Webinar discussed the various basics types of oxygen therapy and invasive ventilation in terms of their benefits and uses.

The purpose of the Webinar is to confirm that oxygen is a drug that has indications for use, and that it can have side effects and complications if the scientific methods for administering it are not taken into account.

The webinar concluded the necessity of following scientific medical methods and protocols in administering oxygen, with the guidance of the treating specialist physician in the appropriate manner and the required dose, while observing the patient in order to avoid possible complications.
