The annual scientific symposium of the Department of Surgery discussed the recent developments in the science of surgery and its departments on Wednesday, 7th July 2021.

The symposium aimed to follow up on the latest developments and recent developments in general surgery and its people in terms of shedding light on the activities and role of the department in community service and encouraging scientific cooperation with other medical colleges as well as the Nineveh Health Directorate.

The symposium consisted of two scientific sessions. The first of which was chaired by Assistant Prof Dr Firas M. al-Chalabi, and by the rapporteur lecturer Dr. Ziyad Abdel Moneim Shanshal. Three lectures in the session were delivered alternately, presented by Assistant Prof Dr Haitham A. Al-Nouri, the department’s rapporteur lecturer Dr Muhannad A. Al-Nuaimi, and the representative of Acino Pharmaceutical Company. (The sponsor of the symposium). After a short break, the second scientific session began under the chairmanship of the lecturer Dr Muddathir A. Muhammad, and the rapporteur of the session, lecturer Dr Muhammad S. Aziz. Three lectures in the second session were also delivered, and the lecturer Dr Ziyad Tariq and Dr Ammar A. Hamed (a joint lecture between them) and the lecturer Dr Muhammad A. Ayed, and the lecturer Dr Saher H. Qiryaqus.

On the side-lines of the work, the Head of the Nineveh Branch of the Iraqi Doctors Syndicate, Dr Muhammad S. Al-Huri, presented on behalf of the union some shields of appreciation to some of the college’s current and retired teaching staff and Nineveh health doctors.

The symposium was held under the auspices and presence of the President of University of Mosul, Prof Dr Qusay K. Al-Ahmadi, and in the presence of the Scientific Vice-President of University of Mosul, Prof Dr Munir S. Taha, and under the supervision and presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof Dr Basil M. Nathir Saeed. It was also attended by some members of the councils of universities of Mosul and Nineveh, dozens of the teaching staff of the two mentioned universities, and many specialized doctors from the Nineveh Health Directorate.
