College of Medicine/ University of Mosul celebrates the first anniversary of the international recognition of the National Council for the Accreditation of Medical Colleges
As part of the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of medical education in Iraq, the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul participated in the grand celebration held on the grounds of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Iraqi National Council for the Accreditation of Medical Colleges obtaining international recognition, and the Iraqi medical colleges obtaining accreditation from the World Medical Accreditation Council, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The ceremony was attended by a number of prominent academic figures, including the President of the World Federation for Medical Education, Professor Ricardo Leon Borquez, the President of the National Council for the Accreditation of Medical Colleges, Professor Dr. Yusra Abdul Rahman Mahmoud, and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Adnan Ibrahim Al-Jumaili, in addition to the deans of Iraqi medical colleges and representatives of international academic accreditation bodies.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Basil Saeed, Dean of the College of Medicine , delivered a speech during the discussion session, in which he addressed the most prominent challenges faced by Iraqi medical colleges, especially the special challenges that the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul went through in its relentless pursuit of international accreditation. His Excellency stressed that this achievement would not have been possible without the combined efforts of the teaching and administrative staff and students, and the continuous pursuit of achieving international medical education standards.
The celebration was also attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Omaima Abdul Razzaq , Head of the Family and Community Medicine Department at the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul, member of the Iraqi National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges, confirming her prominent role in following up and evaluating the academic accreditation standards for medical colleges in Iraq.
At the end of the celebration, the College of Medicine at the University of Mosul was honored by being awarded the accreditation certificate and the appreciation shield from the Iraqi National Council for Accreditation and the Jordanian Accreditation Commission for Higher Education Institutions, confirming its commitment to quality standards and academic excellence.
This achievement is a pioneering step towards enhancing the status of Iraqi medical colleges at the international level, and opens new horizons for academic cooperation and global recognition of the degrees of its graduates, which contributes to developing the health sector and raising the efficiency of Iraqi medical cadres.
