The annual scientific symposium of the Department of Anatomy entitled “The Role of Neurons in Our Daily Lives”, which was held on Monday evening, 15th November 2021, discussed the transmission of coronavirus through the tissues of the eye. It also discussed the changes of blood vessels in the brain of corona patients and the effect of melatonin, and communicable diseases on the nervous system.

The symposium aimed to review the recent latest of corona disease on the nervous system.

The symposium included one scientific session chaired by Assistant Prof Dr Mona Z. Al-Hamdani which consisted of four lectures. The first lecture was delivered by Lecturer Dr Ali A. Daoud entitled “Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Virus through the Ocular Mucosa Worth Taking Precautions”. Then, the second one was delivered by Lecturer Dr Rana M. Raouf entitled “Structural Changes in Cerebral Small Blood Vessels in Patients with COVID-19 Infection”. The third lecture was delivered by Assistant Prof Dr Luma I. Al Allaf entitled “The Effect of Melatonin on Some Behavioral Parameters in Male Rats”. Finally, the fourth lecture was delivered by Assistant Prof Dr Kawkab I. Mahmoud entitled “Infectious Diseases Affecting the Nervous System”. There was a room of time to questions, discussions and interpositions by the attendees.

The symposium was held virtually under the auspices of the President of University of Mosul, Prof Dr Qusay K. Al-Ahmadi, and under the supervision and presence of the Dean of the College, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed. It was also attended by some members of the college council, tens of academic staff from University of Mosul, and a number of specialized doctors of Nineveh Health Department.
