Borrowing Instructions at the Central Library Secretariat

  1. The library is accessible to all university members, including faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students, and university staff.

  2. The central library provides users with special IDs for borrowing purposes only. External borrowing without this ID is not allowed.

  3. Borrowing rights are as follows:

    • Faculty and PhD students: up to 6 books for 15 days, renewable.

    • Master’s students: up to 5 books for 15 days, renewable.

    • University staff: up to 4 books for 15 days.

    • Undergraduate students: up to 2 books for one week.

    • Students in final stages: up to 4 books for one week.

  4. Borrowing using another person’s ID is prohibited.

  5. The library reserves the right to reserve or restrict access to any book if necessary.

  6. Reference books, rare books, government publications, organizational publications, and theses are for internal use only. They can be borrowed for photocopying purposes at the end of the week for a maximum of two days.

    • Journals: Faculty and postgraduate students can borrow up to 4 journals for 3 days.

  7. In case of loss, the borrower must compensate the library with a similar book or pay a fine equivalent to three times the book’s market price plus a late fee determined by a special committee. The late fee is 250 IQD per day.

Vision, Mission, Objectives, and Activities

Vision and Mission
The library unit aims to provide new scientific resources in the field of political science according to academic standards, to achieve leadership and excellence in the field and to build a political culture that serves its users. The unit seeks to elevate user levels by promoting scientific research in political science and contributing to the development of a knowledgeable and ethically committed society, as well as supporting the production of research and consultations that help societal development.

Objectives and Activities
The unit focuses on attracting users academically and educationally in political science and enhancing scientific research aligned with contemporary events. It also aims to improve the library environment by restoring journals and books and ensuring users’ comfort. Tasks include cataloging and classifying books, facilitating borrowing for students and researchers, renewing borrowed books, and participating in library committees.

Unit Tasks
The electronic library provides a Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) service, offering research and studies in various fields in PDF format for faculty and students. It also facilitates automated research services to quickly access university theses, PhD dissertations, and specialized journals, supporting researchers in Iraqi universities.

Library Unit Responsibilities

  • Managing and maintaining scientific resources.

  • Cataloging and classifying books, facilitating internal and external borrowing for students and researchers.

  • Communicating borrowing and fines instructions, renewing borrowed books.

  • Sending notifications for overdue books, issuing clearance certificates for students at all academic levels.

  • Participating in college library committees.

  • Returning borrowed books from students and faculty and arranging them on shelves.

  • Using the KOHA system to facilitate search and retrieval for users.

Theses and Dissertations

  • Receiving, cataloging, classifying, and arranging theses and PhD dissertations on shelves according to classification numbers.

  • Providing automated search for fast access and retrieval.

  • Entering electronic theses into the system for easy access.

Journals

  • Receiving journals via donations, sorting and classifying them by discipline, and registering them in a dedicated log.

  • Providing borrowing services for journals to library users.

Electronic Library

  • Plays an active role in developing library collections of books, theses, and dissertations, organizing them for easy search and retrieval.

Electronic Library (SDI) Responsibilities – Supporting Scientific Research

  • Providing research and studies in various disciplines to faculty and students via Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI).

  • Delivering these materials in PDF format for easy access and download.

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) Service

  • Offers periodic notifications with the latest research and studies in users’ fields of interest, enhancing research efficiency.

Providing Research Materials in Various Specialties

  • Supplies materials in political science, law, economics, and other fields, providing the latest studies to support students’ and faculty research projects.

Access in PDF Format

  • Enables downloading files in PDF format, facilitating researchers’ access to study materials and research for future reference.

Serving Researchers from Iraqi Universities

  • Provides electronic library services to researchers across Iraqi universities, enhancing academic collaboration among institutions.

Supporting Scientific Research and Updating Resources

  • Regularly updates scientific resources to provide researchers with access to the latest global studies and research in various disciplines.
