Master’s thesis in human rights law branch on the impact of legal regulation of armed conflicts not of an international character on the protection of human rights

On Wednesday, September 1, 2021, the Human Rights Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis on the impact of the legal regulation of non-international armed conflicts on the protection of human rights. Part of it was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nemat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College and Assistant Professor Dr. Luqman Othman Ahmed, head of the Human Rights Law Branch, and a number of members of the college council and its teachers

The thesis presented by the student Khalil Ali Khalil in the human rights law branch dealt with armed conflicts that are not of an international character. It was the result of a group of factors, the most important of which is the fighters’ knowledge of each other and the formula of those conflicts, in addition to the participation of civilians in them, which leads to the difficulty of distinguishing between who is a combatant and who is not

The study aims to demonstrate the inadequacy of the effectiveness of the international legal regulation of the convention on armed conflicts not of an international character and its weakness in the protection of human rights due to the legislative deficiency and the weak applied reality, which together contributed to weakening the effectiveness of those rules

The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nazer Ahmed Mandeel and the membership of Dr. Suhaib Khaled Jassim and Dr. Hala Ahmed Muhammad and the membership and supervision of Dr. Raqib Muhammad Jassim
