A Scientific Symposium Entitled: “Women’s Rights Between Legal Texts and Societal Challenges”

The Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Law, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University of Mosul Presidency and the Continuing Education Unit at the college, held a scientific symposium entitled “Women’s Rights Between Legal Texts and Societal Challenges” on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Dr. Amer Al-Jumard Hall (the Moot Court) at the College of Law.
The symposium opened with an introductory speech highlighting the importance of enhancing legal awareness of women’s rights and shedding light on legislative developments and international conventions that guarantee these rights, as well as discussing the most prominent challenges facing their application in societal reality.
The symposium included a number of research papers that discussed various themes, including mechanisms for criminal response to the crime of electronic blackmail in the digital environment, eliminating discrimination against women in light of international conventions, enhancing women’s participation in peacebuilding, in addition to the role of administration in protecting and supporting women’s rights, as well as addressing the protection of women’s rights in international conventions between legal obligation and societal challenges.
The symposium was moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Shaima Fawzi Mahmoud, while Associate Professor Dr. Alia Ghazi Taher served as the symposium’s rapporteur. The symposium was attended by professors, researchers, and a number of college students, where scientific discussions enriched the symposium’s topic and contributed to presenting legal visions that support and enhance women’s rights in society.
This symposium comes within the framework of the College of Law’s interest in promoting scientific research and spreading legal culture, contributing to the establishment of the principles of justice and equality in society.
