“Procedures for Registering Individual and Joint Research, and Scientific Research for Different Specializations”

The procedures for registering scientific research are among the most important procedures related to the scientific promotion of a university professor. Therefore, there are practical steps for the purpose of registering scientific research or a research project, through filling out a special form for the scientific research, which is then recorded and deposited in the branch or scientific department for the purpose of registration, or for forming a committee to conduct the seminar, provided that the lecturer’s specialization matches the specialization of the college in which he works—that is, his home college. There is also no objection to the research being (joint) with the same specialization or a different specialization, or being an (individual) research.

As for the case where the specialization is different from that of the college in which he works—(for example, Computer Science, Arabic Language, or any other specialization)—while he works in a college of a different specialization (for example, the College of Law), the procedure is as follows: his home college is addressed with an official letter for the purpose of conducting the seminar there. Then, his college of employment (Law) is provided with the results for the purpose of registering his research in the minutes of the Scientific Committee of the relevant department, in preparation for its approval in the upcoming scientific promotion. Thus, registration takes place in the department according to affiliation (the college to which he is affiliated), while the seminar takes place in the department according to specialization (the college whose specialization he holds).

The Ministry has permitted that, in the event that the research was not registered initially, it may be registered at a later date through a special form for registering published scientific research. The importance of registration lies in the fact that it is a step to ensure that the research completion period does not overlap with the current promotion period, as it is required that the research be completed during the period following the previous promotion and within the promotion period required for the current promotion. A research is considered completed within the required promotion period under two conditions:

1. Registration.

2. Acceptance for publication during this period.
