The College of Law – University of Mosul witnessed, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the defense of the master’s thesis submitted by student Inas Bahjat Darsoun Raho, titled “Environmental Citizenship as a Reinforcement of Solidarity Human Rights”, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Tariq Yassin.

The thesis addressed the role of environmental citizenship as solidarity rights and duties to confront environmental threats, transforming individuals and organizations into responsible partners by empowering them with procedural rights, particularly the right to information, participation, and environmental litigation, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable development.

The thesis also reviewed the impact of a number of international charters, including the Aarhus Convention, the Rio Declarations, and the Paris Agreement, as well as the legal challenges in comparative legislations, particularly Iraqi legislation, while clarifying the implications of environmental citizenship in protecting human rights, enhancing environmental security and peace, and supporting judicial trends toward establishing climate justice.

The study aimed to establish the relationship between environmental citizenship and solidarity human rights, trace its legal roots to ensure the right to a healthy environment, highlight the role of national and international mechanisms in activating procedural rights and responsibility for transboundary harm, as well as achieving environmental security and peace, ensuring sustainability, and promoting climate justice.

The examination committee consisted of Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Ramadan Ali as Chairperson / Dean of the College of Law, Associate Professor Dr. Oday Mohammed Redha as a member, Dr. Idris Hader Hishan (Lecturer) as a member, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Tariq Yassin as a member and supervisor.
