The College of Law at the University of Mosul organized a scientific workshop titled “The Ethics of Using Artificial Intelligence Tools in Scientific Research,” designated for postgraduate students at the University of Mosul, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Obaid Owaid Al-Hadidi.

The workshop addressed the most prominent ethical controls and standards that must be observed when employing artificial intelligence tools in scientific research, with emphasis on the importance of transparency and disclosure of the tools used and the nature of their role in preparing the research, in addition to the researcher’s full responsibility for the validity and accuracy of data and information, verifying the outputs of artificial intelligence, and avoiding reliance on errors or inaccurate information that these tools may produce.

The workshop also addressed the importance of protecting privacy and information security, and not entering unpublished data or sensitive information of participants into digital models, as well as the necessity of respecting intellectual property and avoiding scientific plagiarism, by documenting ideas and texts and attributing them to their original owners.

The lecturer emphasized that artificial intelligence represents an assisting tool for the researcher and not a substitute for him or an author of scientific research, with the necessity of adhering to the standards and controls approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Research and Development Directorate, especially what is stated in the guide for using artificial intelligence tools in scientific research.

This workshop comes within the framework of the university’s keenness to enhance scientific and ethical awareness among postgraduate students and to enable them to employ modern technologies in scientific research in a responsible and sober manner.
