A Workshop on the Regulations Governing the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in the Writing of Dissertations and Theses

A workshop was held at the College of Law entitled “The Regulations Governing the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in the Writing of Dissertations and Theses,” convened by Dr. Ziyad Abdul-Wahhab Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, one of the faculty members of the Branch of Human Rights Law. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness among postgraduate students and researchers regarding the importance of the responsible and academic use of artificial intelligence technologies in the preparation of university research, theses, and dissertations.
The workshop addressed the most prominent regulations and criteria that must be observed when recourse is had to artificial intelligence tools in research work, with emphasis on the preservation of scientific honesty, intellectual property rights, and the sound documentation of sources, and on refraining from relying upon the outputs of these technologies in their entirety without verifying their accuracy and reliability.
The workshop also discussed the ethical and academic aspects of the use of artificial intelligence, and the mechanisms for benefiting from it in supporting the researcher at the various stages of research, in a manner that contributes to improving the quality of scientific work while preserving the researcher’s role and responsibility for the content and findings presented.
The workshop witnessed interaction and participation on the part of those present, who raised a number of questions and inquiries relating to the mechanisms of the correct use of artificial intelligence technologies in the writing of scientific research, and it concluded with emphasis on the importance of keeping pace with technological developments and employing them in a manner consistent with the adopted academic and research standards.
