The National Center for Spatial Data Management, affiliated with the National Security Adviser, held on Tuesday a specialized workshop to review the draft law on information technology crimes and to discuss the proposal for establishing a commission or ministry for digital transformation. The workshop witnessed representative participation from colleges of law and academic institutions, foremost among them the College of Law at the University of Mosul.

Participating in the proceedings of the workshop were His Excellency the Minister of Communications and a number of members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, alongside an elite group of representatives of ministries, commissions, and syndicates, as well as groups of experts, researchers, and specialists from various relevant entities, in order to examine the accelerating developments in the field of digital crimes and the means of developing the legislative and regulatory frameworks that keep pace with them.

The workshop comprised two principal dialogue sessions:

The first session: Reviewed the draft law on information technology crimes and the legal and technical challenges entailed in its enforcement and in addressing digital crimes.

The second session: Addressed the proposed digital transformation law and the extent of its importance at the current stage in supporting and regulating the technological environment in alignment with the accelerating leaps in this field.

The participants — including representatives of academic and legal cadres — emphasized the necessity of formulating an integrated legislative framework that guarantees the protection of society and state institutions, contributes to the regulation of the digital legislative environment, and secures the national digital space.
