Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision and attendance of Assistant Professor Dr. Wissam Nimat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, Dean of the College of Law and the gentlemen members of the College Council, and with the follow-up of Assistant Professor Dr. Talal Abdul Hussein, Head of the Public Law Branch, the above branch, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit in our college, held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, a scientific workshop entitled Combating the Illegal Proliferation of Weapons, which began with a speech by Dr. Wissam Nimat Ibrahim Al-Saadi, in which he expressed the gratitude of the college’s deanship, its scientific and administrative staff, and its students to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Interior, praising the government efforts made to combat the illegal proliferation of weapons, appreciating the efforts of the presidency of the Public Law Branch and the lecturers in holding this workshop. Then the scientific session began with a research paper entitled The Illegal Proliferation of Weapons, Its Causes and Dangers by Dr. Israa Younis Hadi, in which she explained the concepts of the illegal proliferation of weapons and weapons as they constitute a threat to the security of society And its stability, as it touched on the reasons for the spread of weapons, as the frequency of wars comes at the forefront of the reasons that lead to their spread, as the spread of weapons leads to an increase in crimes and social instability, in addition to the impact of the above phenomenon on educational institutions and the resulting violence and distortion of student relations. The application of the law represents the basic pillar to limit this phenomenon. Then, Colonel Ahmed Muwaffaq Muhammad, Director of the Weapons Control and Regulation Division in the Nineveh Police Command, presented a research paper entitled The Role of the Ministry of Interior in Combating the Illegal Spread of Weapons, in which he discussed the procedures of the Ministry of Interior to limit this phenomenon and the fundamental procedures followed by citizens to obtain official identities for possessing weapons. Then, Dr. Osama Ahmed Muhammad presented his research paper entitled Confronting the Illegal Spread of Weapons in Iraqi Criminal Legislation, in which he explained the role of Iraqi legislation in dealing with cases branching off from this phenomenon, which may sometimes reach the level of crimes, with a statement of the penalties stipulated by law. Then, the attendees, including researchers, academics, teachers, and students, asked many questions and inquiries about the topic of the workshop, which were answered in detail by At the end of the workshop, the Dean of the College distributed certificates of appreciation to the researchers in appreciation and recognition of their distinguished efforts in organizing this activity, which comes within a series of scientific, cultural and student activities in our college during the current academic year 2024-2025.
