On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the College of Law at the University of Mosul held a master’s thesis defense for student Sandra Bassam Karim, entitled “International Jurisdiction over the Application of International Human Rights Law.”
The thesis addressed the concept of international and regional jurisdiction, defining human rights principles and the legal foundations established by general and specific international treaties for the application of the principle of international jurisdiction. It also addressed the manifestations of its application in international courts, particularly the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, as two of the most prominent institutions concerned with the protection of human rights globally.
The study aimed to define the nature of human rights, identify the international treaties that guarantee their protection, and analyze the policies of international and regional bodies in the field of protecting these rights.
