On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the College of Law, University of Mosul, the Master’s thesis submitted by student Ihtifal Thamer Ahmed Al-Anzi, entitled:
“The Impact of Inability to Have Marital Relations on Personal Status Matters – A Comparative Study,” was discussed.
The thesis was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Taha Saleh Khalaf Al-Jubouri.
The thesis presented a comparative jurisprudential and legal study of the impact of inability to have marital relations on personal status rulings, and the resulting legal and religious issues, particularly those related to dowry, lineage, the waiting period (‘iddah), the right of return (raj’ah), the permissibility of remarriage after three divorces, and the prohibition of marriage due to affinity. It also highlighted shortcomings in Iraqi legislation and the need for legal solutions based on comparison with some Arab laws.
The study aimed to address these issues from practical, religious, and legal perspectives, and to present and adapt various jurisprudential opinions. Furthermore, the topic has not received sufficient research and study previously.
The examining committee consisted of:
• Assistant Professor Dr. Nashwan Zaki Suleiman – Chairman
• Assistant Professor Dr. Fatima Ismail Mohammed – Member
• Dr. Amer Mustafa Ahmed – Member
• Assistant Professor Dr. Taha Saleh Khalaf – Member and Supervisor
At the conclusion of the examination, the committee commended the student’s efforts and the scientific presentation and in-depth analysis she presented, wishing her continued success in her academic career.
