Scientific Participation by a Faculty Member from the College of Law in a Seminar on Electoral Law Reform

Dr. Luqman Othman Ahmed, a faculty member at the College of Law, University of Mosul, participated in the proceedings of the Focused Discussion Group titled “Electoral Law Reform” , organized by the STEP Organization for Democracy and Elections in Nineveh Governorate on the evening of Sunday, September 6, 2026.

The seminar came within the framework of the Electoral Reform Initiative, with the support of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) , and with the participation of a distinguished group of professors of law and political science, representatives of civil society organizations, electoral affairs specialists, as well as a number of political parties in the governorate.

The session addressed important themes, including the fairness of electoral competition, the electoral system and the delimitation of electoral districts, representation and electoral justice, the expenses of the electoral process and its integrity, as well as mechanisms for confronting hate speech and incitement.

This participation affirms the role of the College of Law at the University of Mosul in contributing scientifically and professionally to the discussion of national issues, and in supporting legal and institutional pathways capable of developing the electoral process and consolidating democratic practices in Iraq.
