Training Course: “Non‑Thermal Technologies and Their Applications in Food Safety”

The College of Veterinary Medicine – Department of Veterinary Public Health, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, organized the training course entitled “Non‑Thermal Technologies and Their Applications in Food Safety”, held from April 7–9, 2026.

With scientific and technological advancement, non‑thermal technologies have emerged as modern and effective alternatives for improving food safety while preserving nutritional and sensory quality. These technologies rely on methods other than heat to eliminate or inhibit the growth of microorganisms, such as high‑pressure processing, pulsed electric fields, cold plasma, and ultraviolet (UV) treatment.

The importance of non‑thermal technologies lies in their ability to balance microbial and chemical contaminant reduction with the preservation of heat‑sensitive sensory attributes and bioactive compounds in foods.

This training course supports the achievement of:

  • Aim 3: Good Health and Well‑Being
  • Aim 4: Quality Education
  • Aim 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
