Master’s Thesis Defense – College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Pathology and Poultry Diseases

A Master’s thesis titled “Pathological Effects of Nano‑Silver on the Male Reproductive System of Rats and the Role of Selenium in Repairing the Damage” by the student Ali Mohammed Hussein, supervised by Asst. Prof. Hadeel Basim Thanoon, was defended on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

The examination committee consisted of:

The study aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of nano‑silver particles and selenium on the male reproductive system of rats, including assessments of antioxidant enzymes, gene expression, morphometric measurements, and histopathological changes. The results showed a significant increase in body weight in the nano‑silver group. Statistical analysis revealed variations in the diameter and width of seminiferous tubules among all experimental groups. Additionally, levels of glutathione and superoxide dismutase enzymes exhibited significant differences in both treatments. Histopathological alterations varied in severity among the groups, with the selenium group showing the least tissue damage. These findings highlight the protective and restorative role of selenium, compared with nano‑silver particles, at the molecular level and as an antioxidant enhancer, contributing to the repair and preservation of male reproductive tissue structure in rats.

After the student confidently defended his thesis and addressed the committee’s questions, the thesis was approved.
