A Master’s thesis titled “Conventional and Molecular Diagnosis of Aerobic Bacteria Isolated from Otitis in Domestic Cats” by the student Majda Ahmed Jassim, supervised by Prof. Amer Yahya Hameed and Prof. Omar Khazal Salo, was defended on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The study aimed to perform conventional and molecular diagnosis of aerobic bacteria isolated from cases of otitis in domestic cats, including characterization of their morphology, cultural properties, and confirmation using modern rapid diagnostic tools such as VITEK and Render technology. Molecular assays were also conducted to detect virulence factor genes in the isolated bacteria.
The results showed that Staphylococcus spp. were the most frequently isolated bacteria, followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The study also included antimicrobial susceptibility testing and screening for selected antibiotic resistance genes.
After the student confidently defended her thesis and addressed the committee’s questions, the thesis was approved.
