Master’s Thesis Defense

A Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology, entitled:

“Role of Potassium Iodide in Neurotoxicity and Behavioral Effects Induced by Potassium Bromide Exposure in Mice”

The thesis was presented by Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Jassim under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Yamama Zuhair Salih, on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

The examination committee consisted of:

The study concluded that chronic exposure to potassium bromide induces progressive neurotoxicity, manifested by behavioral disturbances, oxidative stress, inflammation, and dose-dependent histopathological damage to the brain. In contrast, potassium iodide provided partial neuroprotection, reducing the severity of these adverse changes without completely preventing them. The findings suggest that potassium iodide may serve as an adjunctive agent to mitigate neurotoxicity; however, further studies are required to confirm its efficacy and elucidate its underlying mechanisms of action.

Following the candidate’s confident and scientifically sound defense, and after thorough discussion by the examination committee, the thesis was approved.
