Master’s Thesis Defense

A Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Surgery and Animal Reproduction, under the title:

“Expression and Function of TASK-Potassium Channel in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Iraqi Cats”

The thesis was presented by the student Sajjad Ithar Hashim Abdulrahman, under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Baraa Duraid Ibrahim Al-Wattar and Assist. Prof. Dr. Sulaf Jabbar Kakel, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The study aimed to diagnose polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in Iraqi cats and investigate the role of TASK-3 potassium channels and their relationship with the pathological changes associated with the syndrome.

The results demonstrated an association between the expression of TASK-3 channel protein and the pathological conditions associated with polycystic ovaries. The use of ultrasonography, in combination with serological and immunohistochemical examinations, also contributed to the diagnosis of the syndrome and the assessment of its associated pathological changes.
