The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, Discusses a PhD Dissertation on the Determinants of Foreign Trade and Their Impact on Economic Growth

The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, held on Sunday, April 19, 2026 a PhD dissertation defense in Discussion Hall No. (1). The dissertation, titled:
“Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Foreign Trade Determinants on Economic Growth Using Gravity Models for Selected Arab Countries (1990–2024)”
was presented by the candidate: Shaker Mahmoud Farhan Atiyah Al-Jubouri.
The study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth in Arab countries by employing the gravity model in econometric analysis.
Key findings of the study include:
A positive impact of foreign trade and trade openness on enhancing economic growth.
A negative effect of geographical distance on trade flows between countries.
A positive influence of population size and foreign investment in stimulating trade and growth.
A crucial role of political stability in supporting foreign trade and promoting economic growth.
