The Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics, University of Mosul, discussed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Master’s thesis titled “The Impact of Geopolitical Risks on Stock Market Performance: Evidence from Arab Stock Markets,” submitted by the student Doaa Nazeer Jameel Ismail Al-Wazzan, in Discussion Hall No. (1).

​The study aimed to provide a comprehensive conceptual and analytical framework for geopolitical risks, explain the mechanisms through which the effects of these risks are transmitted to stock markets, and build an econometric model to measure the nature and direction of their impact on stock market returns in three Arab countries covered by geopolitical risk indices: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Republic of Tunisia.

​The results of the study revealed variations in the levels and directions of the impact of global and country-specific geopolitical risk indices, alongside indicators of geopolitical threats and events, on stock market performance. The findings also showed that the Country Geopolitical Risk Index (GPRC) recorded the greatest impact in the long run, with a negative effect on the Saudi Stock Market and the Egyptian Exchange, whereas it had a positive effect on the Bourse de Tunis, while no statistically significant effect appeared in the short run.
