The Department of Economics at the College of Administration and Economics – University of Mosul held a discussion for the master’s thesis titled:
“Measuring and Analyzing the Impact of Selected Macroeconomic Variables on the International Balance of Payments of Selected Arab Countries for the Period (2000–2024)”, submitted by student Mohammed Ghanem Kazem, in Discussion Hall No. (2).
The study aimed to analyze the relationship between macroeconomic variables and the international balance of payments, with a focus on the key features of both the commodity and non-commodity sectors in Iraq and the selected Arab countries. It also traced the trends of changes in these variables and their reflection on the balance of payments during the study period.
The findings revealed that fluctuations in the exchange rate were a decisive factor influencing the balance of payments in the three countries under study. The depreciation of the local currency contributed to worsening the current account deficit, particularly in Iraq and Egypt.
The discussion committee consisted of: Assist. Prof. Dr. Rabah Jamil Saad al-Din – Chair Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdul Wahab Thanon Saadoun – Member Assist. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Abdullah Jassim – University of Tikrit / College of Administration and Economics – Member Prof. Dr. Saad Mahmoud Khalil Al-Kawaz – Member and Supervisor.
The study aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by highlighting the role of macroeconomic stability in fostering economic growth and reducing financial imbalances.
