The University of Mosul / College of Administration and Economics – Department of Economics witnessed, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in Discussion Hall No. (1), the defense of a PhD dissertation entitled:
“The Risks of Financing Budget Deficits through Public Debt – A Comparative Econometric Study of Selected Countries with Reference to Iraq”
Presented by the student: Azad Faraj Farhan Tareeq.
The study aimed to address the key issues related to the risks of financing fiscal deficits through public debt, particularly within the context of Arab countries, by analyzing the economic dimensions associated with fiscal policies and government borrowing.
The main findings of the study highlighted:
The importance of coordinating fiscal and monetary policies to achieve economic sustainability.
The necessity of economic diversification in oil-dependent countries to reduce the risks of relying on public debt to finance deficits.
