Cuneiform Writing on Clay: A Training Course

Professors from the College of Archaeology participated in a training course organized by the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, entitled “Cuneiform Writing on Clay and its Introduction,” held from May 12–14, 2026. The course aimed to introduce cuneiform writing as one of the oldest writing systems in the world and its prominent role in documenting the civilizations of Mesopotamia. It also reviewed the most important symbols and methods used throughout different eras and provided practical applications of writing on clay.

The course also addressed the importance of preserving Iraq’s cultural and civilizational heritage and the necessity of strengthening scientific and academic cooperation between humanities and science faculties, which contributes to solidifying awareness of Iraq’s rich history and its enduring human civilization.
