Master’s Thesis at the College of Basic Education Explores the Role of the Emirates of the Eastern Islamic World in Strengthening the Abbasid Caliphate

 

The College of Basic Education at the University of Mosul discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “The Role of the Emirates of the Eastern Islamic World in Strengthening the Influence of the Abbasid Caliphate (205–582 AH / 820–1186 AD)” on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Hall of the College of Political Science.

The thesis, submitted by Mr. Abdul Qader Ali Mahmoud Mousa, examined the emergence and development of the Emirates of the Eastern Islamic World, analyzed the nature of their relationship with the Abbasid Caliphate, and explored their role in strengthening the Caliphate’s political and military influence. It also highlighted the contribution of these emirates to reinforcing the symbolic unity of the Islamic world during this historical period.

The study is significant because it addresses a pivotal phase in the history of the Abbasid Caliphate, characterized by profound political transformations resulting from the rise of the Emirates of the Eastern Islamic World. These developments reshaped the nature of political authority and the relationship between the central government and its regional entities. The research offers a scholarly reassessment of this period, moving beyond the traditional interpretation that portrays it solely as an era of political decline and fragmentation.
