Master’s Thesis at the College of Basic Education on “Symbolism in Naguib Mahfouz’s Novel Arabian Nights and Days”
A Master’s thesis entitled “Symbolism in Naguib Mahfouz’s Novel Arabian Nights and Days” was defended at the Department of Arabic Language, College of Basic Education, University of Mosul. The thesis was submitted by the student Omar Ali Abdul Qader on Tuesday, November 8, 2026, in the Umm Al-Rabi‘ain Hall at the college.
The thesis examined symbolism from both theoretical and practical perspectives, reviewing the views and approaches of scholars concerning symbolism and then identifying the mechanisms through which it operates in the selected literary work. The study aimed to demonstrate the role of symbolism in producing meaning and shaping the narrative vision.
Accordingly, the thesis included an analysis of various types of symbols in Naguib Mahfouz’s novel under study, including political, historical, social, and religious symbols, among others.
