M.Sc. Thesis Final Defense “Mohammed Eid Khamees”

M.Sc. Thesis Final Defense

As part of the academic activities of our college, Mohammed Eid Khamees successfully passed his M.Sc. final defense of a thesis entitled “Design A Tool to Gauge the Resistance of Block Cipher Algorithm to Linear and Differential Cryptanalysis” on June 5, 2023.

The thesis dealt with designing a tool to measure the strength of algorithms used in block cryptography against differential and linear cryptanalysis. These procedures implemented tools to extract features required for cryptanalysis. Differential cryptanalysis applies a differential distribution table (DDT) to extract differences between the inputs and outputs of cryptographic systems. While linear encoder analysis extracts linear approximation features implemented linear approximation table (LAT) which provided a comparison of input and output masks with all inputs and outputs.

The study aims to provide support to the designers of the block cipher to improve and develop their cipher by evaluating its robustness against differential and linear cryptanalysis. Provide an evaluation of the performance of the selected block cipher algorithm and provide an estimate of the capabilities of the selected block cipher to resist differential and linear cryptanalysis.

The final defense committee included the following members:

  • Dr. Dujan Basheer Taha/ Chief
  • Associate Prof. Dr. Saja Jasim Mohammed/ Member
  • Associate Prof. Alyaa Moafaq Abdulmajeed/ Member
  • Associate Prof. Dr. Sufyan Salim Mahmood/ Advisor and Member

Congratulations Mohammed, we hope you all the best.
