M.Sc. Thesis Final Defense

As part of the academic activities of our college, Rasha Wael Al-Nahhas successfully passed her M.Sc. final defense of a thesis entitled “Extract Events from Websites” on June 4, 2023.

The thesis dealt with the importance of extracting the event from the texts on the web pages, and the letter presented a proposed system for extracting the event from the texts published in the pages of the website of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics / University of Mosul, which includes much scientific news that is of interest to a large number of researchers, as it is possible to identify the latest scientific events that it took place or will take place in the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, and it is possible to benefit from the system in preparing special statistics that indicate the trends and activities of the college in general, and the achievements of research students in particular.

The thesis presents a model for extracting the event from the website of the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, based on deep learning, and employing a number of networks that have been previously trained in the functions of extracting information from texts, and removing non-text and useless data contained in the site above, to obtain accurate information about the extracted events. The study dealt with the use of pre-trained language models, namely the Semantic Role Labeling (SRL) model and the Named Entity Recognition (NER) model.

The final defense committee included the following members:
