Department of Climate Change
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change at the University of Mosul is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 ECTS credits, aligned with the Bologna Process. The program provides students with a robust interdisciplinary foundation in climate science, environmental physics, and earth systems, followed by advanced study in key areas such as climate modeling, adaptation and mitigation strategies, renewable energy, and sustainable development. The curriculum is complemented by studies in environmental policy, disaster risk management, and ecological economics, ensuring a holistic understanding of climate challenges. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory experiments, fieldwork, data analysis, research activities, and project-based learning to develop technical competence and professional skills. Graduates acquire the analytical, practical, communication, and problem-solving abilities required to assess climate risks, develop adaptation strategies, and contribute to a sustainable future. The program also prepares graduates for professional practice in environmental and governmental sectors, lifelong learning, and postgraduate studies while promoting ethical responsibility, teamwork, innovation, and a commitment to serving the needs of society.
The Climate Change Program aims to:
- Provide students with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education that establishes a strong foundation in climate science, environmental physics, and earth systems while fostering scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Prepare graduates for successful professional careers and postgraduate studies by developing their knowledge and ability to assess climate impacts, design and implement adaptation and mitigation strategies, and manage climate-related projects in accordance with recognized scientific standards and ethical practices.
- Develop students’ technical and practical competencies through laboratory experiments, field investigations, advanced data analysis, the use of climate models and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the effective application of modern digital technologies and analytical tools.
- Enhance graduates’ communication, leadership, teamwork, and project management skills, enabling them to effectively participate in multidisciplinary teams, advise on climate policy, ensure environmental quality assurance, and communicate complex scientific information to diverse audiences.
- Promote research, innovation, sustainability, environmental responsibility, and lifelong learning while preparing competent climate change professionals capable of meeting labor market needs and contributing to resilient and sustainable community development.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Climate Change by the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change program is governed by the regulations and admission policies of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Applicants must meet the approved admission criteria for science programs.
To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change, students must successfully satisfy all graduation requirements, including:
Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits, including all compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum. Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Successful completion of all required laboratory work, fieldwork, and other practical components of the program, where applicable. Compliance with all academic regulations governing assessment, progression, and graduation as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change program, graduates are expected to achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) or Graduate Outcomes (GOs), which describe the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required upon graduation:
GO1: An ability to recognize, identify, formulate and solve complex problems in climate change and related fields by applying the principles of climate science, physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
GO2: An ability to produce effective adaptation and mitigation strategies that meet societal needs, considering public health and safety, and global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors by applying analysis and synthesis processes.
GO3: An ability to create and implement appropriate measurements, climate observations, and experiments, ensuring quality, analyze and interpret the results, and make sound scientific judgments to reach conclusions.
GO4: An ability to effectively communicate scientific information and climate-related risks and solutions with various segments of society.
GO5: An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in environmental and climate issues, and make sound judgments that consider consequences in financial, environmental, societal and global matters.
GO6: An ability to recognize the necessity of continuing self-development of professional knowledge and how to obtain, evaluate, accumulate and apply it properly. GO7: An ability to work effectively within teams, set goals, plan events, meet deadlines, and manage risk, particularly in the context of climate action and sustainability projects.
The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change program is aligned with the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF) at Level 6. Achievement of the minimum graduation requirements, including the required cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), in accordance with the applicable regulations. Successful completion of the graduation project and all required laboratory, practical, and fieldwork components. Fulfillment of all academic and administrative requirements for the award of the bachelor’s degree.

These learning activities are further supported by seminars, technical workshops, and practical training to enhance students’ technical competence, digital skills, and readiness for professional practice in climate science and sustainability.
Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Climate Change program. The role includes overseeing the implementation of the curriculum, monitoring the achievement of the Graduate Outcomes, coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, supervising laboratory and fieldwork activities, and ensuring alignment with the University of Mosul’s quality assurance policies, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) regulations, and program accreditation requirements. The Program Coordinator also supports curriculum review and enhancement to ensure that the program remains responsive to advances in climate science, industry needs, and emerging technologies.
