Symposium of the Department of Pharmacology Debates Recent Developments in Pharmacology

The annual scientific symposium of the Department of Pharmacology debated new scientific topics and recent developments in pharmacology on Sunday, June 13th 2021.

The symposium aimed to show the medical benefits of medical milk thistle as well as Acetylcysteine as a future treatment in some psychiatric diseases in addition to the benefits of the Activity-Based Protein Profile technology in determining proteins in tissues.

The symposium consisted of an introductory lecture by the Head of the Department, Prof Dr Imad A. Thanoun, entitled “Milk of Thistle.” After a short break, the scientific session started, headed by Assistant Prof Dr Shamil H. Othman, and included three lectures. The first is for the Lecturer Dr Nada S. Mahmoud entitled “Activity Based Protein Profile.” The second lecture was given by the Lecturer Dr Shatha H. Mohamed entitled “N-Acetylcysteine ​​(NAC): A Promising Treatment for Many Psychiatric Disorders”. Then the conclusion was held with the department’s rapporteur, the Lecturer Dr Ibrahim M. Faisal, and his lecture entitled “The Growing Importance of Biologics.” Then, after the end of the session, there was given a chance to questions, discussions and interpositions by the attendees.

On the sidelines of the work, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Noble Qur’an at University of Mosul, Assistant Prof Dr Abdul-Malik S. Muhammad, was honored with a letter of thanks and appreciation by the Deanship. A commendable gift was also presented to the student Imad A. Ali and the student Drasan M. Aziz (third stage) for obtaining two advanced results in two separate competitions for the Holy Quran in the field of memorization and recitation.

The symposium was held under the patronage of the President of University,Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamaladdin Al-Ahmedy, and under the supervision and presence of the Dean of the College, Prof Dr Basil M. Nathir Saeed. It was also attended by some members of the councils of universities of Mosul and Nineveh, and dozens of teaching staff of the two mentioned universities.
