A master’s thesis submitted by the student Shahd Saadallah Aziz was discussed in the College of Dentistry, University of Mosul “on evaluating the effect of melatonin on wound healing after tooth extraction” on Monday 14th February 2022. The discussion committee was chaired by the head of the Department of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, University of Mosul, Prof Dr Imad A. Thanoun and a number of other faculty members.

The study concluded that the use of melatonin accelerates wound healing as experiments have proven that melatonin has the ability to reduce inflammation through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities. Whereas, melatonin accelerates healing by strengthening the granulation tissue associated with the healing process.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read which included accepting the thesis after making amendments to it, and awarding the student a master’s degree.
