A Master’s Thesis Dealing with the Histological Effects of Neonatal Exposure to Ibuprofen and Paracetamol on Rat Brains

A master’s thesis was discussed in the College of Medicine of the Department of Anatomy entitled “Histological effects of neonatal exposure to ibuprofen and paracetamol on the brains of rats” which was presented by the student Saif M. Yasser on Thursday 23rd December 2021.

The study aimed to evaluate the effect of postnatal paracetamol and ibuprofen treatment in rats on some factors, including growth, behaviour and brain tissue.

It was found that exposure to paracetamol or alibuprofen from the seventh day after birth to the fourteenth day causes many changes in the developmental and behavioural outcomes and affects the tissues of the frontal cortex of rats compared to the control group.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Hossam El-Din S. Muhammad (chairman), Assistant Prof Dr Sifan S. Fadel (member), Lecturer Dr Ashraf A. Al-Samadi (member), and Assistant Prof Dr Luma I. Al-Allaf (member and supervisor).

Part of the discussion was attended by the Vices-Dean for Scientific Affairs and Administrative Affairs, Assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Ibrahim and Assistant Prof Dr Hazim Kh. Al-Allaf. It was also attended by some heads, rapporteurs and teaching staff of various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis with the necessary amendments to it, and awarding the student a master’s degree.
