A Master’s Thesis in the College of Medicine Concludes that Using the Bee Propolis as a Supplementary Stimulates the Effect of Metformin and Sitagliptin to Controlling Diabetes and its Complications.
The College of Medicine discussed a master’s thesis of the Department of Pharmacology entitled “The effect of bee propolis when added to metformin and sitagliptin on some biochemical tests in male albino rats” which was submitted by the student Rajaa A. Salih on Thursday, 30th September 2021.
The study aimed to prove the effect of bee propolis alone and as a complementary treatment with metformin and sitagliptin on glycemic control, total oxidative stress and lipid interface in addition to renal function in diabetic male albino rats.
It was concluded that the use of bee propolis as a supplementary stimulated the effect of metformin and sitagliptin in controlling diabetes and its complications.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Kawa F. Dezie (chairman), Prof Dr Ahmed Y. Dalal Bashi (member), Assistant Prof Dr Afraa M. Al-Amin (member), and Prof Dr Imad A, Thanoun (member and supervisor).
Part of the discussion was attended by the Scientific Vice- Dean, Assistant Prof Dr Humam Gh. Ibrahim, some heads and teaching staff of various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.
After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read including accepting the thesis with necessary amendments to it and awarding the student the master’s degree.
