Female Professor from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the Discussion Committee of a Master’s Thesis in the College of Nursing

A master’s thesis submitted by the student Inaam A. Hamoudi Al-Taee was discussed in the College of Nursing entitled “Evaluation of risk factors for formative malformations between mothers and their new-borns children in maternity hospitals in the city of Mosul” on Wednesday, 18th August 2021. The discussion committee was chaired by Prof Dr Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, and a faculty member was the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, College of Medicine, University of Mosul, the Lecturer Dr Saja A. Al-Jawadi along with a number of other teaching staff.

The aim of the thesis was to assess the risk factor of congenital malformations among mothers and new-borns in maternity hospitals in Mosul city.

It concluded that 56.7% of the mothers were between (15-26) years old, 72.5% of the mothers’ age at marriage was between (13-20) years, 50.8% of the mothers resided in urban areas, and 95% were of the mothers’ profession. Housewives, 53.3% of parents’ relatives are cousins, 35.8% of mothers’ education level are illiterate, and 65.0% were passive smokers. It was found that the highest congenital anomalies were in the digestive system 30%, the nervous system 20.8%, and the cardiovascular system 11.7%.

After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read including accepting the thesis after making amendments to it and awarding the student the master’s degree.
