Master’s Thesis in the College of Medicine Deals with Comparing the Effects of Fluvoxamine, Fluoxetine and Misoprostol in Experimental Models of Stomach Ulcers.
The College of Medicine dealt with a master’s thesis for the Department of Pharmacology on the comparison of the effects of the use of flufaxamine, fluoxetine and misoprostol in experimental models of stomach ulcers caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in rats which was presented by the student Sada W. Abdelkader on Sunday 12th September 2021.
The study aimed to evaluate the protective activity of flufaxamine in reducing histopathological changes of the gastrointestinal tract as well as biochemical changes caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and changes caused by stress.
It was concluded that fluoxetine has a better effect on protecting the stomach than fluoxetine and misoprostol. The reason may be that the drug flucloxiamine has antioxidant, gastro-reducing and anti-inflammatory properties as well as antihistamine and serotonin effects.
The discussion committee consisted of Prof Dr Muhammad Kh. Taha (Chairman), Assistant Prof Dr Khaldoun Th. Al-Abayaji (Member), Lecturer Dr Hani M. Muhammad (Member), Lecturer Dr Ibrahim M. Faisal and Assistant Prof Dr Muhammad Gh. Saeed (members and supervisors).
Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof Dr Basil Mohammednather Saeed, some heads and teaching staff of the various scientific departments and a number of postgraduate students.
After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read included accepting the thesis with doing some necessary modifications and awarding the student the master’s degree.
