A Master’s thesis explores the various aspects and influencing factors of foreign policy in countries that have experienced conflict, using Iraq as a case study

The International Relations Department at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, discussed a Master’s thesis on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. The thesis, presented by the student Zainab Mahmoud Rashid, was attended by the Dean of the College of Political Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Tariq Mohammed Tayib Zaher, along with several faculty members, postgraduate students, and interested individuals.

The study delved into the dimensions and determinants of the foreign policy of post-conflict countries and their movements on the international stage. It also highlighted the extent to which the policies of these countries are influenced by their regional and international environments. The study focused on the characteristics of these countries and the determinants that hinder their movements on the international stage.

Among the key conclusions reached by the researcher Zainab Mahmoud Rashid:

  • The effectiveness of Iraq’s foreign policy increases as its external behavioral patterns can contain inhibiting contents and utilize supporting variables in light of the comprehensive strategic activation of all its policy tools. This requires seeking to reach foreign policies aimed at achieving goals.
  • Conversely, new strategies and methods of action are needed, based on a bold reading of the international reality and environment.
