A Consultative Session on Preparing the National Human Development Report

In collaboration with the University of Mosul and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq, the Ministry of Planning held a consultative session on preparing the National Human Development Report (Citizenship and the Social Contract) on Thursday, October 12, 2023. The consultative session witnessed three discussion panels addressing the preparation of human development reports in terms of their importance, objectives, historical background, and fundamental standards, chaired by Dr. Tariq Mohammed Tayeb Al-Qassar, Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul. The second panel focused on national memory, identity, and citizenship that embraces diversity, chaired by national expert in the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Adnan Yassin Mustafa from the University of Baghdad – College of Education for Girls. The third session dedicated to discussing citizenship and the social contract was chaired by national expert in the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Wafaa Jafar Al-Mahdawi from Al-Mustansiriya University, College of Administration and Economics.

Representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq, civil society organizations, a number of experts and specialists, university professors, and related entities attended. It is worth mentioning that the Human Development Department in the Ministry of Planning was responsible for preparing and organizing this workshop and upcoming events and workshops aimed at preparing the third Human Development Report in Iraq, which will address “Citizenship and the Social Contract.”
