A Master’s thesis at the College of Political Science University of Mosul concluded that the G5 Sahel countries are at the forefront of the French strategic agenda in Africa
The thesis, presented by the student Mohammed Salem Qadouri on Tuesday, 3 September 2024, at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, discussed the French strategy and its focus on the Sahel region of Africa, particularly the G5 Sahel countries, which are considered a French sphere of influence.
The thesis aimed to highlight the strategic importance of the African Sahel and monitor the interactions between international powers, specifically the United States, Russia, and China, towards this strategic region.
The study concluded that the G5 Sahel countries (Chad, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania) are at the forefront of the French strategic agenda in Africa. France seeks to maintain its influence in the region due to the intersection of its strategy with the strategies of other countries towards these nations, resulting in disturbances, coups, and political instability.
The discussion committee consisted of Professor Dr. Saif Nusrat Tawfiq (Chairman), Assistant Professor Dr. Marwan Salem Ali (Member), Assistant Professor Dr. Rafi Sharif Dhnon (Member), and Assistant Professor Dr. Hazem Hamad Moussa (Member and Supervisor).
The session was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Tariq Muhammad Tayyib Zahir, the Scientific Assistant Lecturer Dr. Khairallah Sabhan Al-Jubouri, and a group of the college’s faculty members.
After the discussion, the committee’s decision was read, which included accepting the thesis with the necessary amendments and granting the student a Master’s degree.
