On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, Assistant Professor Dr. Tariq Mohammed Tayeb Thahir, Dean of the College of Political Science at the University of Mosul, delivered a lecture titled “Artificial Intelligence in the Realm of International Relations” at a symposium organized by the Mosul Families Council.

The lecture addressed artificial intelligence as a transformative factor in espionage and intelligence activities, ranging from manufacturing destabilizing fake news and campaigns against adversarial states to preventing human agents from operating within countries through surveillance. It also highlighted how AI enables politicians to handle and analyze vast and increasing volumes of information to make optimal decisions. The United Nations has even begun holding meetings to discuss the global implications of this technology.

The significance of the college’s participation in such community activities lies in fostering the engagement of academics and faculty members, as part of the broader role of the university in serving humanity and society.
