The College of Political Science, University of Mosul, Holds a Workshop on the Analysis of Charlie Chaplin’s Speech in The Great Dictator

The College of Political Science, University of Mosul, held a workshop on Linguistic Persuasion Strategies: Analyzing Charlie Chaplin’s Speech in The Great Dictator on Thursday, 27 February 2025.

The workshop, presented by Assistant Lecturer Nawar Basel Mahfouz from the Department of International Relations, examined this renowned speech, which is considered one of the most influential in history due to its deep humanitarian message and powerful rhetorical techniques.

The analysis highlighted how repetition was used to reinforce Chaplin’s ideas and instill principles of freedom and equality in the minds of listeners. It also explored the importance of linguistic structure and speech rhythm in influencing audiences, emphasizing the role of language as a powerful tool in shaping public opinion and evoking mass emotions.

The workshop was held under the patronage and presence of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Tareq Mohammed Tayeb Thaher, and the Administrative Assistant Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Hussein Yassin, along with a distinguished group of faculty members and staff from the college.

The university order has been issued to promote the faculty members of the Department of International Relations at the College of Political Science, University of Mosul, Assistant Lecturer Basma Mohammed Nadhir and Assistant Lecturer Najwan Hani Mahmoud, to the rank of Lecturer as of 27 February 2025.
